New Jerusalem / „The little Way/Der kleine Weg“

Das Neue Jerusalem  „Der Kleine Weg“   New Jerusalem „The Little Way“

Little Therese is the childversion of St.Therese of Lisieux. ( Lisieux / Normandy, France) The Saint who introduced „The Little Way“ and the same patroness of the church in which you can see this painting. It is the part where the story picks you up to make this mystical journey to New Jerusalem. It encourages the beholder to take „The Little Way“. What is this Little Way?

Jesus Jesus

Matt.18,3

Verily I say unto you, Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven

Die kleine St Theresia v.Lisieux Little Therese / Die kleine Theresia

„Weil ich klein und schwach war, beugte er sich zu mir herab und lehrte mir im Verborgenen die Dinge seiner Liebe“

“All God asks of you is good will. From the top of the ladder He looks lovingly upon you, and soon, touched by your fruitless efforts, He will Himself come down, and, taking you in His Arms, will carry you to His Kingdom never again to leave Him. But should you cease to raise your foot, you will be left for long on the earth.”

„You make me think of a little child that is learning to stand but does not yet know how to walk. In his desire to reach the top of the stairs to find his mother, he lifts his little foot to climb the first stair. It is all in vain, and at each renewed effort he falls. Well, be this little child: through the practice of all the virtues, always lift your little foot to mount the staircase of holiness, but do not imagine that you will be able to go up even the first step! No, but the good God does not demand more from you than good will. From the top of the stairs, He looks at you with love. Soon, won over by your useless efforts, He will come down Himself and, taking you in His arms, He will carry you up… But if you stop lifting your little foot, He will leave you a long time on the ground.“ ( Counsels and Reminiscences)
